World Book Day april 23

  Every year, World Book Day or International Day of Book or World Book and Copyrights Day is organised by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The World Book Day is being celebrated since 1995. The idea of World Book Day was given a writer Vicente Clavel Andres to celebrate World Book Day on the death anniversary of author Miguel de Cervantes. Initially his birthdate October 7 was proposed. But as the death anniversaries of William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega also falls on April 23, the later was selected. However, in reality Shakespeare died 10 days after Cervantes. This was because when the legends lived, Spain used Gregorian calendar and England used Julian Calendar. Miguel de Cervantes was a Spanish writer. He was well known for the classic western literature “ Don Quixote ”. He lived in 17 th  century. He was a soldier, poet, novelist, tax collector and a playwright. Civil Services Day

  Every year, India celebrates Civil Service Day on April 21. The main aim of celebrating the day is to motivate the efforts and works of civil servants. On the Civil Service Day, India rewards various officers with Prime Minister’s Awards for Excellence in Public Administration. The awards work as an inspiration to the civil servants. The awards are presented in three categories. The category 1 that includes hill states and North Eastern States. The Category 2 includes 7 Union Territories. CSIR produces Protein Enriched Biscuits for COVID-19 patients

  The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, CSIR-CFTRI (Central Food Technological Research Institute) has made protein rich biscuits for COVID-19 patients. The biscuits have been sent to the COVID-19 patients in AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Science). The CFTRI has so far supplied 500 kg of protein-rich biscuits. Also, another 500 kg of protein-rich rusks have been supplied. The usual biscuits contain 8% to 9% of protein. However, these enriched biscuits and rusks contain 14% of protein. The biscuits will help COVID-19 patients that are recuperating. Recuperating is recovering from illness. Protein is essential for the body to fight against infection. It balances fluids and increases oxygen supply throughout the body. The biscuits have been formulated strictly adhering to FSSAI standards. World Heritage Day

Every year April 18 is observed as the World Heritage Day. The day is also celebrated as the International Day of Monuments and sites. The World Heritage Day is celebrated to create awareness about diversity, heritage and vulnerability of the monuments and heritage sites. The World Heritage sites are defined as man-made areas or natural areas that hold international importance and requires special protection. This year the World Heritage Day, 2020 is celebrated under the theme Theme: Shared Culture, Shared heritage and Shared responsibility The theme focuses on the current COVID-19 crisis. The theme aims to increase global unity to fight against the outbreak In India, five Delhi monuments are to be illuminated to celebrate World Heritage Day. These five monuments include Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, Safdarjung’s Tomb, Red Fort and Purana Qila. These sites are to be illuminated by Archaeological Survey of India. Health Minister chairs the 12th Group of Minister meeting on COVID-19

  On April 17, 2020, the Union Health Minister Shri Harsh Vardhan chaired the 12 th  Group of Minister meeting on COVID-19. The meeting was attended by External Affairs minister, home minister for state, shipping and chemical and fertilizer minister for state, member of NITI Aayog, etc. The Group of Ministers discussed actions taken so far to contain the spread of COVID-19. It was announced at the meeting that the death rate in the country due to COVID-19 is at 3% and the recovery rate is at 12%. The situation and recovery in India is better than most of the other countries. This is mainly due to successful implementation of the lock down. The Health Minister also announced that the growth of the virus has been declined by 40%. The Group of Ministers meet announced that more than 170 districts have been put in red zone. Out of these 123 districts are with large outbreaks, 47 districts are under cluster transmissions. Around 207 districts have been placed in non-hotspot and 353 district
