World Heritage Day




Every year April 18 is observed as the World Heritage Day. The day is also celebrated as the International Day of Monuments and sites.

The World Heritage Day is celebrated to create awareness about diversity, heritage and vulnerability of the monuments and heritage sites. The World Heritage sites are defined as man-made areas or natural areas that hold international importance and requires special protection.





This year the World Heritage Day, 2020 is celebrated under the theme

Theme: Shared Culture, Shared heritage and Shared responsibility

The theme focuses on the current COVID-19 crisis. The theme aims to increase global unity to fight against the outbreak


In India, five Delhi monuments are to be illuminated to celebrate World Heritage Day. These five monuments include Humayun’s Tomb, Qutub Minar, Safdarjung’s Tomb, Red Fort and Purana Qila. These sites are to be illuminated by Archaeological Survey of India.


The International Council on Monuments and Sites in 1982 announced April 18 as World Heritage Day. It was approved by the UNESCO in 1983. The organization was established based on the principles of Venice Charter framed in 1964.

October 21: Police Commemoration Day

The Police Commemoration Day is celebrated on October 21 every year. The day is observed to honor the martyrs who sacrifice their lives in this service to the nation.  This year, the day was observed to honor the police officers from across the country who have been working day and night to ensure  COVID-19 norms are followed properly. They are the frontline workers who  have been risking their lives in order to contain the spread of the virus. PM Modi’s birthday: Seva Saptah organised

  Every year, on Prime Minister Modi’s birthday that falls on September 17, Seva Diwas is celebrated. This year Seva Saptah has been organized to mark the PM’s 70 th  birthday. The Seva Saptah is observed between September 14, 2020 and September 20, 2020. Seva Saptah is also called a week of Seva. The Gujarat Government is to launch projects and schemes to commemorate birthday of the prime minister. The Chief Minister of Gujarat is to launch cow-based organic farming wherein the government is to provide a monthly assistance of Rs 900 to the farmers.
